Dolphin Quantum Pool Cleaner

As part of their advanced class of robotic pool cleaners, Dolphin touts the Quantum model as one of their lightest and most methodically designed bots ever. Dolphin is a frontrunner in the industry of robotic pool cleaning, and they’ve had quality products on the market for years. But as one of their most popular models, we wanted to see how the Quantum lived up to the hype of wall-climbing, fantastic filtration, energy efficiency, and more. Keep reading to see our honest review of the Quantum experience.

Small Package, Big Power
You won’t hear us suggest buyers spring to purchase a caddy - the Dolphin Quantum weighs only about 16 pounds. Sure, you could make a workout out of curling it repeatedly, but as far as robotic pool cleaners go, that’s light. It’s small, compact, and sleek, built with a minimalist design to decrease weight and increase functionality. Hearing those statistics before seeing it in person gave us pause to wonder how powerful and durable it could be against a 50-foot pool, but we weren’t disappointed. Its patented Exoskel may be minimalist, but it’s built like a tank – low to the ground and solid. And thanks to its lightness and sturdy built-in handle, it’s far easier to transport to and from the water than other robotic pool cleaners.

Getting Set Up
Like most Dolphin robotic pool cleaners, there wasn’t much assembly required at all. Taking the bot from box to poolside took about five minutes. Just remove the plastic covering from the brushes, plug the Quantum in

to the power supply, and select your cleaning job.

The power supply’s control interface is fairly easy to use. You can’t miss the giant power button, and it has a convenient built-in programmable weekly timer. This will come in handy during the summer months when you need to run the Quantum daily, or if you’re out of town for a few days.

However, the power supply has a Bluetooth and wireless phone icon. To our knowledge, the Quantum doesn’t come equipped with Bluetooth capabilities, so some users may find themselves trying to connect the bot to their phones to no avail. This may be a bit confusing to buyers who haven’t read the fine print.

Once the Quantum was set up and ready to go, we dropped it into the water and let it sink to the bottom, then pushed the start button.

In the Water
We tested the Dolphin Quantum robotic pool cleaner in a 20x40 gunite pool. The Quantum’s specs say it can clean up to a 50-foot pool in just two hours, so we knew ours wouldn’t make for an unfair testing environment. Like with all of our reviews, we let the pool accumulate debris for a few days without any cleaning in between. With large oak trees nearby, there were plenty of leaves, small twigs, and even pollen dispersed throughout the water. And there’s no telling what kind of dirt was floating around thanks to the windy weather and water-loving dog.

Once the Quantum had reached the bottom of our dirty test pool, we started its cleaning job. It spent the first bulk of the cycle focused on the bottom. The Quantum is equipped with Dolphin’s SmartNav 2.0, which is a software that scans the pool and calculates the optimal pattern for the fastest and most efficient cleaning. This prevents it from lingering in one area too long or missing other areas entirely. During the first cleaning, it seems like the Quantum was getting the lay of the new land, figuring out the best cleaning route for its new pool.

With each pass across the bottom, the Quantum picked up all of the bits of visible debris. But it’s when it started climbing and cleaning the walls that we became really impressed.

Quantum is equipped with something Dolphin engineers call PowerJet 3D Mobility. Most robotic pool cleaners can easily move forward and backward on a flat, horizontal surface. But there’s a lot more to a pool than just the floor. The Quantum has three vortex jets instead of the traditional one jet, letting it effortlessly adhere to vertical surfaces underwater. It can move laterally while vertical to reach hard-to-get spots, and the jets assist in defying gravity’s pull.

It climbed the walls with ease and quickly figured out where the water line was. Even when it peeked above water to clean the walls, it never lost grip or fell from its height. We think a lot of that has to do with the strong rubber grips on the Quantum’s track. They grip the pool surface tightly without being hindered by water weakening its efforts.

You can even see the strong bristles of the brush spin rapidly as it reaches the water line sludge, and it’s extremely satisfying to watch it obliterate the buildup of dirt and algae. Quantum’s dual HyperBrushes are located on the front and back of the bot, and they spin twice the speed of ordinary robotic pool cleaner brushes. This design actually lets the brushes attack bacteria, algae, and miscellaneous grime on the walls by aggressively scrubbing them. Most robotic pool cleaners glide over surfaces instead of dive into them. But the Quantum gets into the nitty gritty.

The Quantum took its time navigating the underwater steps, but its weight distribution lends itself to navigating those nooks and crannies. It eventually scrubbed the underwater steps and tanning ledge before wrapping up its cleaning job, and it had no problems gliding over the pool drains.

Post-Cleaning
The first cleaning job took 2.5 hours, which is normal according to the Quantum’s specifications. Considering the state the pool was in when we dropped the Quantum into the water, we were impressed to see it gathered all of the visible debris. The cord got a little tangled in on itself from the first cleaning, but it unraveled easily.

The real proof of any robotic pool cleaner’s worth is in the filter – and the Quantum did not disappoint.

It’s fitted with an impressive, customizable filtration system. It comes standard with a large filter cartridge that has 400 square inches of space. That’s a huge capacity compared to the tight and finnicky filter cartridges of older robotic pool cleaners. When we pulled the cartridge out, it was impressively full of even more debris than we realized was floating in the pool. There was an abundance of sticks, leaves, acorns, and even some dog hair that it had managed to capture. Best of all, cleaning the cartridge is a breeze. Just dump the larger junk and hose it down until clean. It’s that simple.

The Quantum comes with quick-change filters so you can easily change the media dependent on what your cleaning job needs. Since we used the oversized filter cartridge first, we decided to test the Quantum again with the NanoFilter, which is designed to handle small debris like fine algae down to two microns. We set the Quantum to run another standard cleaning job with the micro-filter and were surprised at just how much fine debris and algae it picked up after its 2-ish hour run. The filter was remarkably dark with particles unseen to the naked eye while in the pool. While most robotic pool cleaners come standard with the capability to grab larger debris, not every bot can filter through for such a thorough deep cleaning. The Dolphin Quantum is in a class of its own there.

Cleaning the NanoFilter was just as simple as the larger cartridge. All it requires is a good hosing down until the water runs clear, then it’s ready to be placed back inside the Quantum.

What Impresses Us About the Quantum
Lightness
The weight of a robotic pool cleaner isn’t something you really dwell on until you’ve owned a few. Like we mentioned before, the Quantum’s 16 pounds isn’t much compared to rival pool cleaners, but it packs a mighty punch. We found no lacking performance due to its lightness – the power of the DC motors and 3D-mobility jets gives it all the oomph it needs. Best of all, there’s no risk of throwing out your back trying to lug it from the pool to the shed all summer long.

Power and Energy Efficiency
The Quantum uses dual 24-volt, 3000 RPM DC motors. To put that into perspective, traditional robotic pool cleaners use energy-sucking AC motors that can expend 1800 watts of power. But the Quantum only requires 180 watts. All in all, that means you’re spending a mere five cents an hour to run the Quantum robotic pool cleaner. And you’re not sacrificing in performance, either.

Ease of Maintenance
Gone are the days of shimmying filters out of tight nooks and dousing flimsy debris bags in water in a futile effort to clean them. The Quantum makes maintenance an absolute breeze. With the push of a button the filtration system opens, and you can remove the cartridge with one pull. Cleaning it out entails dumping the debris and hosing the cartridge and filter down until they are clean again. It takes a few minutes and is impossibly simple.

Two-Year Warranty
We’re suckers for a good warranty. Dolphin products come with varying warranties, but the Quantum is insured with an impressive two-year warranty. While it’s not a three-year value like some of their other models, we feel peace of mind knowing the Quantum is backed for 24 months. And it comes standard with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

What’s Lacking
The biggest potential issue we see with the Quantum is cord tangling. Many Dolphin products come fitted with the company’s patented and game-changing cord swivel attachment that prevents the long cord of the bot from tangling into an impossible mess. The Quantum, however, doesn’t have that nifty feature. While we only experienced mild tangling, it’s certainly inevitable with frequent use. All in all, it’s a lot to ask a mobile machine not to tangle a 60-foot cord with no swiveling mechanism, no matter how smart it is.

The only other feature we raised our eyebrows at was the Bluetooth symbol on the power supply interface. The interface is easy enough to use to start a cleaning or set a weekly timer, but the Quantum doesn’t have Bluetooth capabilities. We’re not sure if it was simply an oversight to include it here, or if Dolphin engineers are trying to use the same power supply across different models. Regardless, it’s a non-existent feature that shouldn’t be there.

The Final Verdict
The Dolphin Quantum robotic pool cleaner is a workhorse for your pool. Retailing at around $1,000, it’s not a small investment, but we do think it is a worthwhile one. Its ability to defy gravity and consistently scrub the walls of a pool is remarkable, and its power isn’t hindered by its sleek, compact design. The Quantum isn’t bogged down with frivolous bells and whistles – instead it’s a solid, well-designed, dynamic machine. If you’re looking for an everyday robotic pool cleaner that can take on your pool’s season-changing cleaning needs, we think the Quantum fits the bill

We are fortunate to have two homes. One in the Midwest and one in California. In California pool men are abundant. However, in the Midwest they are rare due to the short season. Thus, because of that I'm the pool man!!!!! This is Quantum is unreal. It did take two or three runs to figure the dynamics of our lagoon shaped pool....after that it doesn't miss anything. In regard to the warranty issue..call them, as I did, they will register for you FREE OF CHARGE. Filters are so easy clean, the unit weighs only approximately 14 lbs. I may fire my pool man California and replace him the Quantum.

Large top open clean box without tangle wire

George Chao -

I had a dolphin pool cleaner for over 20 years. It was a reliable working robot. The new Quantum has a few nice features. The top open with a large clean box is very handing and easy to clean. The wire is floating in the water and don't get to tangle up. The robot do clean the wall, but not steps. Powerful enough for a large ungrounded pool.

Works way better than my pool sweep

Matthew Manolides -

I was somewhat skeptical of this thing (and the robotic pool cleaner category as whole based on my roomba experiences), but I decided to give it a shot. My current pool sweep is a real pain the butt, and only does an 'ok' job. I purchased this device and set it to work in my pool, and it just worked. I am completely impressed by it, I really wasn't expecting it to clean the pool so well so quickly, I've never seen the bottom so free of debris. The bucket is super easy to clean out, I'm really happy with it so far. It didn't pick up large branches, but neither would by regular polaris sweep. It hasn't done a great job on the steps, but that's easy enough for me to manually sweep off before running the device. For fun I also threw it into the adjoining hot tub (not heated at the time), and it did a great job in the tiny space. For context, my pool is somewhat large and lagoon shaped. It's right under several redwood trees, so it gets a boatload of crap falling it in all the time. We'll see if this guy stands the test of time. No cord tangles so far.

Dolphin

Anna LeJeune -

I like the pool cleaner but I have a problem with it every day. The cable gets all tangled . I set the timer and went away for the weekend and when I got home the cable was all tangled & cleaner has rolled over the cable and it was caught in brushes. I paid entirely to high for that to happen. I had an old Dolphin for about 5 years and never had any problems. The old one had a swivel at end end of cable and it never tangled once. Can someone please call me to discuss what I can do about this problem. Thanks

Fred Roberts -

I bought this one an absolutely amazed at the fine particle it collects. Polaris would not even come close to this Nautilus quantum. First time I used it I was embarrassed on how much mud looking stuff the filters collected. And very easy to clean. I totally recommend this and you will probably never have to vacuum to waste again

why'd I suffer with Polaris for so long

Nancy Halperton -

On our 2nd year. A little bleached , but still kickin. Our home pool is huge by most standards, it's 25 YARDS long. Stick "Robbie's " controller at the mid point, and it goes to town. Up the walls, good coverage. Runs when pool pump is off. Minor downside is the cord gets twisted. The programing must always turn one way vs another. Every week or so, need to untwist the cable.

This thing is amazing, I couldn't be happier with the performance. I can't get the Bluetooth to work with my phone but haven't gone into troubleshooting on that yet. Not a big deal for me, the point is this thing is saving me many hours a week cleaning my pool. And it cleaned up a VERY dirty pool.

... Dolphin that we purchased in 2009 and we've been super happy with it

Erin Lunn -

We had a Dolphin that we purchased in 2009 and we've been super happy with it, but it finally died so I really researched to find one that would work great, last and take care of the few little areas the old one didn't. The new Dolphin Quantum more than fits the bill, it works GREAT! We have a huge pool, 44,000 gallons and this little guy covers the whole thing, climbs to the very top of the tile and the lift out basket is SO much easier to clean than the old one. If I had to critique one thing, it would be that they still haven't figured out how to keep the cord untangled, so after you run it a few times, you have to take it out, untangle the cord and let it sit in the sun for a bit to get the kinks out. Overall, this one is way better than our old one and I just hope it lasts as long!

Super quiet and efficient unit with easy clean filter basket !!!

Gina Rhodes -

This pool cleaner has been simply amazing. Just having it for a little more than a week, and I couldn’t be happier. Weight wise at 26 pounds, it’s easy to move around with or without the dolly. The dolly does however allow it to not be sitting on the tracks when it’s out of the pool. See my review of the trolly. At the pool opening, there was considerable dirt on the bottom, which this cleaner squared away in just two cycles. Those two cycles were with the mesh filters, after which I have gone to the fine filters and my pool hasn’t been cleaner. My main filtration system seems to be benefiting as well since the water flow has never been better. That wasn’t the case with the Polaris units it replaced. They were always tangling the supply hose, not to mention the noisy extra pump required to operate it. No noise problem with the Quantum as it’s super quiet. Oh and the Quantum filter is a breeze to clean, which just wasn’t the case with the Polaris.

Best pool vacuum so far and I have owned many different types over several years. I like that it is smaller & lighter weight, but works just as well as my older Tiger Shark-style vac. Best features: Top loading filter (this is a major improvement over bottom style). Easy to grab folding handle. Cord has not tangled. Size not as bulky. Lighter weight makes it so much easier to place into & pull from the pool. Does not spill water all over the place like my old cleaner when removing. Overall, so much easier to use. Intelligent design. Does a thorough job. Easily climbs walls. I even like the little blu led light so you know it us running :)

This is my third dolphin in 20 years. It is excellent cleaner. I would like to see two improvements I wish the electric cord was longer, because you cannot use an extension cord. It worked out any way. The second is I wish it had wifi so I could use my cell phone to controll it. . I still gave it 5 stars because I knew it didn't before I purchased it. I had a remote before I didn't use it enough to warren the extra 300 dollars for another model. Two suggest I have ,first sweep the stairs so debris goes onto floor of pool. ( you have to do that with any cleaner. )The second is you need to train the dolphin when first using it. My was staying in shallow end. I pulled it into deep end a few times it now understands to go all over the pool.

Absolutely amazing. I truly thought I did a good job ...

GB -

Absolutely amazing. I truly thought I did a good job keeping my pool clean before this - Polaris pool sweep, manual wall scrubbing, well-balanced chemicals, etc. I was wrong. The Quantum is amazing as it inevitably pulls out ALGAE every time it cleans. Algae?! I thought a pool sweep was just to pickup leaves and twigs from the bottom of the pool that the kids carried with them into the water - at least, that's what I always experienced with the Polaris. Who knew that algae was actually in the pores of the pebble-tech itself - floors and walls? This thing really is amazing. Turn it on, stick it in the water, give it a handful of cycles to understand your pool's layout, and it just works. A great, great product with amazingly advanced vector thrusting to keep it on the wall and give it horizontal motion when scrubbing (yes scrubbing) the waterline.. Oh, and if you are lucky enough to have the option to purchase this from Pool Express Group - DO IT - they are absolutely phenomenal when it comes to customer service!!

Incredible time-saver!

JN -

I wanted to use this for a while before I wrote the review. I moved in February to a house with a partially renovated, 25 x 45' pool. I opened the pool early because I knew I would have to work on it and I wanted it to be ready when the warm weather finally arrives. The pool is surrounded by trees and as a result, the spring brought all manner of debris, most of which made its way to the pool. I've been running this at least five times a week for a month now and it works incredibly well. The debris filter/basket hold a lot of junk and it's very easy to empty and clean. The cleaner picks up dirt, leaves, very small twigs - pretty much anything that ends up in the bottom of the pool. After a couple of bad storms, the pool was filthy and I had to run it two or three times to get most of the filth from the bottom, but it kept up. After about six weeks of use, I've had no issues with the cord getting tangled. The tracks propel the cleaner efficiently and it easily climbs the walls in the 7' end of the pool, getting to the top to scrub the tile line. It probably only gets about 25' of the tile line each time it runs, so I still brush that regularly. It's never gotten stuck except for one time when I found it upside-down on a shelf. Not sure how that happened... I've seen it start to go upside-down and then correct itself numerous times. It's obviously designed to account for that. It uses water jets facing in all directions to stabilize or re-position itself. I know these are pricey, but if you're in the market for a robotic cleaner, give this one a close look.

Realise your life's ambitions

WH -

The best Maytronic's robotic cleaner I have used for one reason. The top accessed filter tray is wonderful. Easier cleaning and larger capacity than prior units. Another reason is the name is cool and makes me feel smart. My last Maytronics was the Premier....good unit lasted 4 years. Prior to the Premier I had a Polaris model with the tail and external booster pump. My father-in-law is partial to the Polaris cleaners and because my wife thinks he knows so much more than me, I was cowed into buy

ing one. The Maytronic’s unit I had before the Polaris, I cannot remember the model, but for all intents and purposes the same as the Premier. I bought the Quantum because my daughter's twelve-year-old friends pulled my Premier's power supply into the pool. I almost bought another Premier but read about the Quantum and decided to try it. The filters on the Premier and prior units are loaded by turning the unit upside down and extracting the filter bank after sliding two tabs with finger tips or at times with a screw driver because my dainty fingers can’t take pressure. After the filter bank was removed on the Premier, you remove the 4 filters from the holder by flipping 4 rotating clips and individually power spray each filter then reload the four filters into the holder by rotating the 4 clips, load the holder with filters in the robot, and finally re-engage the sliding tabs. With the Quantum pull up on the lid latch with one index finger, pull the tray out, rinse the four filters still in the tray, replace the filter tray and close lid. Every once in a while I will, or might I don't know I am lazy, remove the four filters and individually power spray them, but I don't have to do it every time now. The geometry of the Quantum tray with filters is a large volume 3-D trapezoid as opposed to the 2x low volume 3-D triangles of the Premier. I have a 50'x24' pool with 50k gallons and ? surface area which collects leaves as well as my wife's flower pots (at least once every single summer!). Anyway, the Premier gets clogged up and a sensor tells the system to prematurely stop. So I need to do the above recurrently until the job is done with the small capacity Premier filter volume repeatable stopping up. I had plenty of leaves in the pool today requiring three runs on the Quantum to clear, but he Quantum never stopped without completing its cycle. One pain in the butt avoided and each cleaning much easier than with the Premier. The Premier has an anti-tangle swivel that the Quantum does not. However, the Quantum does not get tangled. I guess because the robot spins alternately clock and counter clockwise. Hence, no Quantum Entanglement …. Spooky action at a distance? The Quantum also has a cool blue light on the front, which ostensible provides the Nav 2.0 AI with some visual info but I don’t care. The design features above are all I need. The Quantum robot could take a drunken sailor random walk on the bottom of my pool and I’d be fine. The blue light and sensor may provide increased efficiency over prior Maytronics devices, but for me the blue light is just cool and my lazy butt just wants to clean the dirty filters easily. On a final note the Quantum is designed to be serviced by the owner. One of my life goals is to understand the General Theory of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. Now thankfully with my new robotic pool cleaner I can be a Quantum Mechanic

I absolutely love my Dolphin Quantum. It’s super easy to clean. Lighter weight than my old Dolphin. The Quantum does a great job of climbing the walls and cleaning the tile line. Excellent Cleaner

Jack Faessler -

The cleanliness of my pool has been greatly improved, and the amount of time that I must expend to maintain a clean pool has been minimized. Yours is an outstanding product: works as is demonstrated. It is in daily use here. Its ONLY detractor is the tendency for its power cord to tangle/kink with repeated use —which requires periodic manual detachment from the control unit, straightening it’s cord and reattachment. A retrofit for that would be appreciated!

Mostly pleased with performance...

Renae Baldwin -

Mostly pleased with the operation, though it does not clean the entire bottom of my random-shaped gunite pool. Also, there is a feature on the control unit that supposedly allows a single sweep of the BOTTOM ONLY. I contacted customer service only to discover that that feature is disabled on this model. Nowhere in the shoddy instructions was this mentioned and I was VERY DISAPPOINTED that this wasn't available, since it would cut the cleaning time in half by not climbing up the walls. Otherwise, I've been quite pleased with its functionality and performance.

huge waste basket, and of course low energy use

Hallie Rentsch -

The Pros: Solid, well made, cleans amazingling well and runs all the way up and scrubs the tile line, huge waste basket, and of course low energy use. I had an old Polaris for 30 years...this is a huge improvement and keeps my pool much cleaner. The Cons: few but...it is supposed to 'learn', then why can't it remember to not tangle it's own chord? (It's usually twisted about 2 turns when I take it out to clean the basket). Not sure this next one is fair...did I mention it was well made and solid...that also means pretty heavy when retrieving it from the water. I of course can not compare this to all the other models out there but overall am very happy with my purchase.

I like the robot

JR Caron -

I like the robot, but it couldn't do my whole pool with the existing power cord length. The distance to the Power Supply from my Pool House to the edge of the pool is 32 feet. The pool is 36 feet long. I definitely needed an extension cord. The power supply is on a 20 amp GFI circuit. I added a 15 foot 20 amp extension cord. That worked fine. If the robot ever got snagged and somehow dragged the cord, the connection would be broken in a possible three places on the power supply line. Thanks for the confirmation on the use of an extension cord by another reviewer.

LS -

Let me begin by saying that my pool has never been as clean as it is now using the Dolphin Quantum! I used to use a normal vacuum that runs through the filter but am really happy that I switched. Several people have commented about tangled cords but after about 15 cleaning cycles the cord has never tangled. I use the Dolphin and then take it out of the pool. I would like to give it a 4.5 stars but don't have that option. I have seen a couple of minor issues that stop me from giving it 5 stars. Twice it has stopped cleaning in mid cycle (I am not sure why) but I just hit start again and it has run fine, I called Customer Service and they told me that I could send it back and they would check it, but we agreed to leave it for now and see how things go. I would certainly recommend this cleaner to anyone!

So far so good. It cleans the entire pool and only seems to briefly get stuck on drains, then works it's way off. Other robots failed on these areas. Doesn't clean the steps that well, but seems none of them do, Like the easy access top loading cartridge. Very easy to clean. The unit does not seem heavy to me. When you bring it to the side you just lift it a little slow to drain the water. The changeable filter screens are a nice touch. They are easy to switch to either handle larger debris and leaves to fine particles. If it had cleaned my steps well, I would have given it 5 stars.

Jackson Sakamoto -

Excellant, better then my first Dolphin. Goes up the sides and easy to clean. Covers the pool in no time. Bet its saving on the electricity because of the speed and efficiency. One complaint is the cord. Its too stiff and easy to knott up. Have to unwind frequently. Not a great problem but a nuisance nonetheless. Otherwise I would recommend.

Gertrude saunders -

So far works great. I'm turning off my sand filter during robotic use. The sand filter jets prevents robot from scrubbing them. Cord does not get tangled. No problem , cleans algae too. I only run it one cycle at a time , because the electric box becomes very warm, I feel using in back to back timed would damage the power unit. Let your power box cool down before using two times in a row.

Good Robot - Lacking Software

WT -

This replaced my old Dolphin Pro. Over the course of this summer this new Dolphin Quantum worked out really well. It does a perfect job of cleaning the bottom, walls, and waterline. I absolutely love the basket design since I was used to cleaning out a fabric bag on my old Dolphin Pro. The Quantum's basket can be emptied and cleaned in about 60 seconds and it is ready to go back in the pool. It no longer dumps leaves/dirt back into the pool since the basket design has a weighted folding fabric flap that closes when it turns off. Also, this robot does not get stuck on my main drain anymore. It gets stuck for about 10 seconds, then figures out it is going in circles. It then turns on its jets and lifts itself off the bottom, pushing to the side and off the drain. Overall, I'm very impressed by this pool robot. I took away one star since the Android application has never worked for me, and I've tried it on three different phones. It finds the base and pairs with it, but I can't select my robot because nothing appears in the list. Another reason for subtracting the star is due to the base functionality. I cannot select any other option besides for the normal cleaning schedules. It appears the other physical buttons (fast mode, delayed operation) are not connected, or it is firmware disabled.

My biggest complaint this product is advertised as dolphin "top of line" latest and greatest. For 2016, it is missing key features. No Bluetooth connectivity or programming/control. For the cost, I would have expected this made clear. On control panel, you see Bluetooth iCon but when I could not connect, I called Maytronics only to find out not available this model. Hence my frustration this advertised new, improved, top of line and it is not. For cleaning, works well. Climbs walls with ease - up over tile. Amazing. Does get hung up every once in a while mid cycle over bottom pool drains? Not sure it is good pool sweep if you want to "set it and forget it". Overall, cleaning well done. I love big basket. Not as "automated" I would like. Lack of Bluetooth for pool robotic this expensive should be clearly stated in features in unit advertised Amazon as Dolphin new for 2016 top of line. It is not their top of line if does not have this but you see icon on control box. Cord twists and needs attention every few cycles.

Cleans the pool well. Cord is annoying

Greg Scott -

Owned this robot for over a year so I’ve seen all the positives and the small negative. The robot does what it’s suppose to do. Cleaned the pool floor well, also does a great job of climbing the walls. The robot cleans the water line very well. The large capacity basket traps a lot of debris and is pretty easy to clean. Easiest way it to dump out large items such as leaves, then turn basket upside down and rinse with a hose. The only negative I have with this robot is the cord. It will tangle and bind up so it won’t allow for Full pool cleaning. I constantly have to work the tension out of the cord by twisting and turning the cord from the robot to the plug end. When I work the tension out of the cord it will clean my entire pool. I need to do this after every other cleaning. If the cord issues didn’t exist I wouldn’t gladly give this robot a 5 stars. That’s being said I love it and I don’t regret the purchase. I just wish this cord issues wasn’t such a problem.

Filters well with the particulate filter in place. Climbs walls, doesn't do steps. It seems to have a problem with non-flat pool surfaces since the brushes are flat, but it eventually comes around to hit it at an angle that will get it clean. Cartridges are easy to change. Cord does tangle up something wicked if you don't untangle it periodically. I still do have to brush, but less often. I think its main benefit for me is that I have to backflush and clean my DE filter far less than before. Haven't tried the Bluetooth yet because I'm not really sure what it is for.

Another good not great

Jeff Cox -

Awesome at cleaning my pool, it's a wierd shape but the cleaner moves around like it really does know what it's doing. I probably should have read the reviews cause the lack of ability to use Bluetooth, with it being "top of the line" is strange. The directions in the box state not to use the cord to lift the cleaner from the floor, so unless you want to dive down and get it (also it says not to swim with it in the pool) you end up waiting for it to try and clean the water line and snatching it. Would be nice to be able to use the app and bring it to the surface when your done. Overall it does a great job, just can't claim top spot with it missing such a big feature.

If it had bluetooth, it would be fantastic

Lena Dentsch -

We bought the Quantum to replace our previous robot (Aquabot 4RC). Overall, the Aquabot cleaned a bit better (better suction), but I hated to clean the bag, as that entire process was very difficult (and resulted in many broken fingernails). The Aquabot also broke a lot, while this one seems more reliable so far (1 year). The Quantum is excellent in that regard - the screens are easily cleaned and the cleaning basket fits easily into the top of the machine - very well done. The robot scales the

pool walls pretty well and coverage seems ok, although it misses spots. The cord seems to not twist on mine. The robot comes with a controller that is easy to use, however there is no wireless capability with this machine. As a result, if it misses a part of the pool, your only recourse is to manually position it. The controller seems to have a bluetooth button, but it doesn't work. I called the company and they verified that bluetooth does not work on this robot even though the controller has a bluetooth button. At the start of the season, the Quantum easily sucked up all the winter residue without choking. Here, the two types of bags were very helpful, as I could use the screen for the heavy residue and then finish up with the fine particle cleaner (the Aquabot only has the bag, which clogs quickly). In my opinion, for the price and the fact that this is advertised as "top of the line", this is a surprising deficiency. So, for me, the choice comes down to whether you want slightly better cleaning, bluetooth and a very difficult to clean cleaning bag (Aquabot) or a slightly inferior cleaning ability (but still quite good), no bluetooth and a very easy to clean cleaning bag (Dophin) (and a second filter option for heavy debris)

Very good but not perfect

Jim Bowdren -

This is a really good pool cleaner but not perfect – may miss a spot or two at times especially in corners. It seems to spend too much time on the walls and the water jets tend to blow leaves out of the way at times versus sucking them up. Very easy to clean filters which hold a lot of leaves. Just hose off the basket – no need to remove the filter plates from the basket for cleaning. I spread the cord out along the length of the pool deck as directed (NOT on the water) and let the unit pull the cord into the water as needed. I throw the cleaner into the pool at the midpoint. Doing this, the cord NEVER gets tangled. I use the fine filter set and I purchased a rough filter basket insert from Sunplay ($40) that is made for the S300i cleaner and use both together to get two levels of filtering during cleaning (same as more expensive S300i). The inner basket captures the leaves and rough debris and the fine filters capture the fine debris. Nice addition. Overall, happy with the purchase.

Great Little Unit but Should have a Swivel

Catherine Giangrande -

We were able to let go of our pool guy because of purchasing this unit. It does an excellent job of getting the dirt out and the fact that it can even climb the walls is a neat feature! The only reason we gave it four stars is the cord should be on a swivel. The manufacturer explains that it doesn’t need a swivel because of the intelligence it has to “learn” your pool but the swivel should have been included. The cord is very long and it is a lot to ask of a machine to not get it tangled. The swivel would assist the unit plain and simple!

DS -

I purchased in fall of 2016. Quantum has been going strong for 3 years. I had one issue with controller early after purchase and Maytronics sent me new one without hesitation. Great customer service. Unit cleans well and filters easy to clean. My biggest issue has been cord tangling. After extreme frustration this season and wasted time after every cleaning session to deranged, I found DIY swivel replacement from 3rd party. I called Maytronics and they confirmed part number I needed. Price range varied. I bought one for 160$. It took about 20 min to install. This is what unit should have come with in first place. Now it is perfect and cleans my 20×40 ft pool better than with prior cord as tangling caused cleaner to miss sections.

pros: cleans walls and entire pool efficiently and effectively. Has a timer for cleaning every 3 days, once a week, and 3 times a week. (some reviewers have said it is inconsistent-I haven'. t had it long enough to notice). lightweight. nice toploading and large container for debris. cons: despite having the buttons for fast clean and delayed clean, they dont work (so why are the buttons even there?), implies it has bluetooth ability and can connect with your smart phone but in fact does not. Ge

ts caught up on my drain and I have to pull it off. happens once or less per full cleaning cycle. no catty included. Some say the cord tangles up but mine has not after 3 cleans so far. (I have a kidney shaped pool with a deep end sitting ledge, 9 ft deep, and step entry with no railings, pebble bottom. Although celans very well, it missed a couple small spots. I had the maytronics DX4 before and it works a lot better in its ease of cleaning, wall climbing, total pool cleaning, and would get caught up on the drain 4 times more, and return to the drain like a magnet sometimes. So, in conclusion, my primary goal is to have a clean pool that got the walls and water lines and be able to easily clean the device which it accomplished. the ability to set a schedule is nice too (though would prefer the ability to set a more personalized schedule, i.e. tuesday, thursday, saturday at 4 pm. I could care less about remotely controlling it, the device should be cleaning all the pool without my assistance, that's the whole point of it. delay would be useful if I had company but a minor function. I would neer need a fast clean anyway, I always want the pool fully clean, not skipping on the detail. So, I am a little dissapointed on the false advertising of the fast and delayed options and blue tooth, and getting caught on my drain, but will keep it because it accomplished very well my primary goals for it

D. George -

Pros, it seems to clean well in the areas that it cleans, and is best performing when the pool pump is not on. I like how it gets high up on some sides, to rub off tile rings. The cord does not tangle. Top access filter is convenient. It has two sets of filters, one for fine particles and one for dirt etc, with a very large basket for leaves. I have a pebble teck pool and my old cleaner would fall over and just scrape large gashes in the pool over time, where this cleaner uses a softer rubber an

d the extra weight keeps it from tipping. Cons: Does not cover all of pool surface in one cleaning cycle as advertised. I see no indication of it having "learned the pool", and it has favored spots that get a super cleaning, and some not touched. It has a love affair with the pool drain, even when the pool filter is not running, so need to buy a cover basket to keep it from getting hung up there. EXTREMELY heavy to lift out of the pool, and if its not angled just right, the dirty water runs back in the pool as it's lifted out. We have the caddy purchased because it's a lot of weight to lug around, and when stored, and if not using the $140.00 extra caddy, one has to turn it upside down for storage. I hope the caddy arrives soon. Also, changing from the fine mesh filter to the waffle filter is a royal pain. All four panels come out, and they are a stinker to get back in. I see that process wearing out quick, or else I give up and decide to just stay with one of the filters over the other. Instructions are minimal. I may be too critical, but considering it's high price tag, I was expecting it to be more efficient. Oh well, we are sticking with it and adapting

Todd Lightner -

The filtration capabilities was great. The pool looked sparkling clean. The problem was that it missed a number of spots in our pool. We still had to manually sweep areas that the Quantum would miss. The cord also tends to tangle easily. Although, we could have put up with the cord if it actually swept the whole pool. If that were fixed, I would have rated it 5 stars. We ended up returning it because it is too expensive to put up with having to still manually sweep the pool. We also purchased the Hayward Aqua Vac500 and had the same problem with it missing large areas as well as just shutting down without reason. We also returned the AquaVac. We are still researching and looking for something that will work.

Not very intelligent robot

B. Shur -

I chose this robot because of its supposed ability to clean steps - which it does not do, not even do poorly, just does not. If it ever gets on the steps - which is rare - it gets stuck there and shuts off after a while, the appears to be zero intelligence built into it to enable this robot to get out of these situations. same thing with a "love seat" in the pool, if it gets there, it gets stuck and shuts off. It does clean the bottom and seems to do a decent job cleaning around the waterline, but even there, at least once I found it rolling around the bottom of the pool upside down, probably fell off the wall and could not right itself. All in all, rather dumb for a robot.

I live in Southern California and my pool is irregular shape with steps. This cleaner cleans it pretty well but it will not pick up the roof shingle (asphalt) granules no matter how many times i let it run over them. So eventually I had to buy a vacuum that just sucks them up and then let this robot do its job. Secondly, it's not efficient at all in climbing steps so I have to run the vacuum over the steps also and then brush them off. Net-net, after spending about a grand I expected more but since it does a pretty good job in cleaning the floor and also brushing off waterline (however much it can), I am still going to keep it.

I spent 6 months prior to purchasing this robot reading on line reviews pro's and con's of each Model/Style/Etc. I previously owned 2 Aquabots and was satisfied with them although replaced 2 over 8 years so thought time to move to different style hence Dolphin. Note.I treat the robot like an electronic-store it away at night out of elements, dry, cord neatened to not tangle, etc...This Dolphin was expensive and very disappointing-The cord is awful...tangles itself no matter what I do.... i have tried every trick in the book but the cord has a mind of it's own and as soon as it hits the water it's always a surprise to see how far the robot can get across the pool and/or up the walls before it sling shots itself back due to a tangled cord. Would never have spent this much money on this model had I known that .. don't believe any reviews that say "swivel" cord as it's not...its a plastic/rubber type of material that does not lend itself to straightening itself ... I would not re purchase this robot due to the bad cord design .. what good is a Pool Robot that thinks its' an over sized slingshot on rollers? Also, tried emailing the manufacture multiple times regarding the electronics used to control it and never to this day have received any response back-very frustrating

As a previous owner of a dolphin M5 Supreme, the current model Dolphin Quantum really needs a major upgrade. A swivel on the power cord cable similar to the m5 supreme cord would prevent tangling as i have sent in the robot twice to have the cable replaced due to extreme tangling.
