Head To Head Review Analysis
Truth be told, its hard to find a robotic pool cleaner with this many working features for this low of a price. It delivers a deep clean and moves powerfully underwater, and its filtration system is on par with some premium-class models. We wish it came with a caddy so its weight wouldnt be such a burden, and it certainly wont win any beauty contests with its drab color scheme and antler-like handles. However, it will save you hours of manual labor, and its a smart upgrade from traditional, power-hungry suction cleaners. So, if you value a lot of cleaning with minimal effort, you want the DX4 S in your pool.
Ultimately, you cant go wrong buying the Dolphin Premium robotic pool cleaner for your pool. It costs more than other bread-and-butter cleaners, but it maintains that workhorse-like efficiency that we love from Dolphins mid-line robotic pool cleaners. On top of its cleaning ability and durability, its smart, and it can climb and filter like a much more expensive machine. As a pool owner, you may be just as happy with a robotic pool cleaner that doesnt boast smart technology or as impressive climbing ability. But if those are priorities for you, the Dolphin Premium will likely exceed your expectations.

Fabulous Find At Last
Absolutely fabulous so far. Exceeded my hopes. Finally a cleaner that doesn't get stuck and climbs the steps. It's a little heavy when I take it out but still pretty easy. It does a fabulous job. I highly recommend it. Very, very happy.
Very good product & service
I bought a house with an inground pool in 2016 and I had never delt with a pool before. 2 weeks after I bought a DX4 to clean it up, which it did just fine, the thing got stuck in the shallow end ladder. Something was not right with the tracks after that so I called customer service and made arrangements to send it back. They fixed it and sent it back to me about a week later, all free of charge. The thing has been perfect ever since. Decals have come off in spots and I may need to replace a couple parts but havent yet. It still works just fine. If I ever need to, Ill get another.
Saved our summer!
We have struggled for years with our clunky suction cleaner. This Dolphin is amazing. Super simple to set up and go. My husband loves the filter! He says it has saved him from hours of manual labor. We love our dolphin. Kids are excited for the summer.
Life Saver, this thing is AWESOME!
Drop it in and push a button. My pool has never looked better and keeping my pool clean is so easy now. All of the years I have been so frustrated trying to keep it clean or spend the extra time doing so, has not made me enjoy owning my pool again. I should have gotten one of these years ago! A must own to keep your pool super clean.
Works OK - But Could Do Better
Bought this Pool Cleaner and it arrived less than a week ago. Our in ground pool has been in serious need of a complete cleaning after three weeks of high winds and rainstorms bringing lots of small debris, pollen and dust into our pool. So far I have run this robot 6 times and it's picked up most of the large debris and about half of the fine dust and pollen in our pool. Will likely need at least another 6-8 cleaning cycles to get most of the fine debris removed. Biggest downside of this robot is the small capacity for debris. It usually will run only 20 to 30 minutes before the "full filter" light comes on. Also does a poor job cleaning steps in our pool; so I use our portable pool vac for that job.
Good not great
Works well. Not as well as older model, I had before. The older model had a cloth vacuum bag and did not need to be emptied as often. Also, this one makes marks on the bottom of pool.
OK performance
So far, it has performed OK. Not too sure about its Intelliscan technology - cleaning pattern seems as haphazard as previous robot cleaners. Takes the full 2.5 hrs. to completely clean the bottom of my 16x40 pool. I am somewhat disappointed with its wall climbing capabilities. A few times it climbs the wall to the tile border. But most times, it only travels about half way up the wall. On the positive side, it is easy to use, easy to clean and caddy keeps everything tidy.
My honest experience
Purchased August of last year. It functioned well initially. Stored per instructions, but motor didnt work this spring. Under warranty and motor was replaced and is functioning again. New surfaced pool with correct pool chemistry. Have appreciated Maytronics honoring of warranty and hope not to run into further mechanical issues considering the price.
will not walk the walks and clean walls as advertised
We have used the Dolphin 4 for several years and it quit working. Replaced it with the DX4s as we thought it was the appropriate replacement after the 4 has been discontinued. Got it in and immediately put it our indoor pool.In the couple of hours it ran it only climbed the wall 15 times. Since we have 120 linear feet to clean at that rate we would have to do it 10 times straight to clean the entire wall. The Dophin 4 would climb and then walk across the surface for several feet before submerging. Tried to return or exchange the next day but the company said it was out of box and refused return. Stuck with it
The power supply doesnt last
The cleaner works great when it runs. However I have had issues with the power supply
Best robotic cleaner
After 18 years of inground pool ownership and using various other vacuum type cleaners, the Dolphine robotic cleaner far surpasses the others in functionality, speed and performance. Its very easy to clean debries from the removable basket. Im extremely satisfied with this product and would highly recommend it.
5 Stars
Ive only had it a few days, but so far its cleaning very efficiently and is very easy to use. I do wish the app to manually drive was a little more user friendly, and able to be accessible from anywhere/not at home, and perhaps had ability to program cleaning times. Easy to clean and lightweight.
3rd Breakdown
My Dolphin Premiun cleans well when it works. But in 2yrs Ive had 3 breakdowns and a dirty pool for weks or months on end. A lot of money spent on a poor product. Part this weekend and need to borrow a robot from a friend asap. Bad experience for me.
Somewhat disappointed
I bought the Dolphin Premium in 2016 after my iRobot cleaner died. I was definitely impressed with how much easier it is to clean and maintain the Dolphin. I also like the power supply and caddy. But when it comes to cleaning my pool the Dolphin doesnt do as good a job as my previous cleaner. It will roll right over some debris (small leaves and dirt) and not pick them up and it seems to just miss some parts of the pool. Even if I keep it on for multiple cycles (6 hours or so) there will still be some visible debris in the pool that I have to manually clean up before guests arrive.
Poor Reliability & Doesn't Work as Promoted by Maytronics
This product was purchased in June 2018 and was used for three months. Now in 2019, it works on and off, but mostly off and when it works it only goes for 2-5 min before stopping. My Hayward pool cleaner lasted 8 years before having problems. I cant even find a service centre on the Maytronics website for my area. Another point of irritation is the fact that Maytronics promoted the pool cleaner as having a two stage filter system. In reality, its only a one stage filter because the water does not need to pass through the first filter to get to the main filter. Rubbish!
